Albany is a hazmat training hub

Dozens of Firefighters from across Georgia came to the Albany Fire Training Center, where they were trained on the Hazmat Chemical Identification System. VSU will take the field against the Shorter Hawks on Saturday for homecoming, but the university has a lot of activities planned for the students and especially the alumni in the mean time.

Albany police chief encourages businesses to use alarm systems

Workers at Ace Liquors say they installed an alarm system when they opened 30 years ago, and although they've had one break-in, they say its still been a good deterrent. Billy Davis remembers when Ace's Liquors on North Slappey was the target of a group of break-ins several years ago.

Albany City officials are one step closer to creating a merger with South Georgia regional information technology authority or S G RITA. Today city commissioners went over a preliminary contract that would allow the city to manage SGRITA while the board maintains ownership.

Albany woman murdered inside her home

Albany Police report a 28 year old woman was shot and killed early this morning. Investigators have not released the victim's name yet.

The department has received numerous complaints in the last few months about people driving 4-wheelers and dirt bikes on city streets. "If we can go to where they are parking these vehicles or trying to hide it, we have a better opportunity of getting them," said Captain Michael Persley.

Vandalism reported at Albany's skate park

A neighboring business owner noticed the fence at the park on College Drive had been cut in one place and torn down in several others. There was also graffiti painted on some of the skate structures.

Travelers flying out of Albany are cautious about Ebola

Customs and health officials at Atlanta's Hartsfield Jackson and several other big airports are now taking the temperatures of passengers from three West African countries as part of a stepped up Ebola screening program. Passengers flying out of Albany Thursday say they're definitely being more cautious, but aren't scared.
