Albanian deputy minister sacked over power bills
Albania's deputy environment minister has been sacked for allegedly not paying her electricity bills - just as the government is striving to persuade Albanians to settle old power debts. In a statement on his Twitter social network account Wednesday, Prime Minister Edi Rama said there can be no justification for non-payment, a major headache for the country's dysfunctional state-run power sector.

Crash on U.S. 19 injures Albany woman
An Albany woman was injured when her S-U-V was hit by a truck on U.S. 19 in southern Lee County Wednesday. The Georgia State Patrol says 75-year old Linda Moye was turning from Endoline Drive when she was hit by a northbound tractor trailer driven by 41-year old Gary Harrison of Cairo.

Stores across Georgia evacuated after bomb threats
Several Walmart stores and one restaurant in cities across Georgia had to evacuate their buildings after bomb threats targeted them. A Walmart Supercenter in Lee County was evacuated Tuesday after a bomb threat was reported in the store's pharmacy.

Guilty federal pleas for child porn, false tax returns
Brian O. Brannen, 41, formerly of Albany, entered a guilty plea to one count of possession of child pornography on December 15, in Albany, Georgia. Based on facts related by a person who had stayed briefly at Mr. Brannen's residence that child pornography had been seen there and on Mr. Brannen's computer, officers of the Dougherty County Sheriff s Office obtained and executed a search warrant on that residence and computer.

Repeat child porn convict pleads guilty again
Christopher B. Wilcox, 41, formerly of Cordele, entered a guilty plea to one count of possession of child pornography Monday in Albany federal court. When Wilcox pled guilty, he was already on supervised release from a previous conviction for possession of child pornography in March, 2003, for which he received a sentence of 33 months in prison.

Two more surrender in federal drug investigation
Two Tifton men indicted by a federal grand jury are now in custody. The Tift County Sheriff's Office says 51-year old James Waters and 47-year old Chris Waters turned themselves in to U-S Marshals in Albany this morning.

Driver trapped in Whispering Pines Wreck
Albany firefighters are working to free a driver from their SUV after a two vehicle accident on Whispering Pines Road and Greenwood Drive Monday morning. WALB News 10's Jim Wallace reports two vehicles are involved and traffic in the area is being detoured around the wreck.
