Tree theft costs Optimist Club $2,500

The club sells Christmas trees on the corner of Martintown Road and Knobcone Avenue every year, using the funds to give scholarships, support sports teams and put on an Easter egg hunt. 'It was pretty sorry for someone to steal that many trees,' said Barry Myers, a member of the Optimist Club.

City Council approves construction funds

At City Council on Monday night, a plan to authorize $10 million to finance the cost relating to construction and equipping the parking garage - which is part of the Medac agreement - was unanimously passed. The City will receive no more than $10 million in bonds to finance the structure and will use an additional $2 million - one million each from a citizen approved sales tax and the Capitol Projects Fund - to ensure the costs are covered.

Nativity scene, holiday display added at North Augusta library

Mary Jo Dawson, the director of the Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Edgefield Library System, said some residents contacted Aiken County Council and the County administrator.

Laura Beth Winchester performs on CMA special

Laura Beth Winchester, a native of North Augusta, performed in the back-up group for Sarah Evans when she sang in the Country Music Association Country Christmas 2014. Winchester joined other Trevecca students who sang 'Go Tell it on the Mountain' with Evans in front of a live audience at Bridgestone Arena on Friday, Nov. 7. The show aired on Dec. 1 on the ABC Television Network.

Christmas parade a hit in North Augusta

With about 80 floats in the parade, the Lions Club was able to bring Christmas cheer to the community, according to vice president Faye Purcell. 'It was an honor and a great experience,' she said of serving as Grand Marshal with her husband, Jim.

Laces 4 Love shoe giveaway is fitting Christmas tradition

Laces 4 Love has a 'sole' purpose: to make sure elementary school children in Aiken and surrounding counties who need shoes have them. Started as an outreach ministry at First Baptist Church of North Augusta 12 years ago, Laces 4 Love began its annual holiday distribution at Cyril B. Busbee Elementary in Wagener last week.

A 38-year-old Aiken woman was arrested Friday walking in and out of traffic on Trolley Line Road and Neibling Drive after she told officers she had been drinking.
